A24 saw the script and greenlit the film before X even started; was wrapped up
Narrative
in 1979 a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film on a rural Texas farm, but when they get separated and are caught in the act by their elderly owners, the crew fights for their lives. The day after the South by Southwest premiere of X (2022), writer/director Ti West revealed that he wrote the prequel Pearl during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine at his New Zealand hotel before the film began production. (2022). He asked star Mia Goth if she would like to stay in New Zealand to film The Pearl, and she readily agreed.
There are no opening credits
The prequel is released later in 2022. When Lorraine goes into the basement and turns on the light, there is a modern halogen bulb that didn’t exist in 1979. Maxine: I won’t accept a life I don’t deserve.. The title doesn’t even appear on the screen until the end.

Akt Naturally Performed by Loretta Lynn Written by Vonie Morrison, Johnny Russell Courtesy of Geffen Records under license from Universal Music Enterprises. I originally watched this movie as an introduction to Mia Goth’s acting, which I have to say is incredible in this movie. I was thrilled to see such stars, including Jenna Ortega and Brittany Snow. That being said, I think the writing didn’t live up to the potential of the cast.
Overall his movie was good but not great
If you’re looking for a nostalgic 70’s/80’s style slasher flick, this might do the trick. The motivations of the characters in this movie left a lot to be explained and passed me by. Regardless, this movie is a prelude to Pearl’s prelude. which is much better executed and "X" worth watching just to experience the "Pearl" in all its glory.

But I’m looking forward to the character development in the partner films surrounding this storyline. A24 has created some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century.
