Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed upon any film or film production, especially an American one
Narrative
Career diplomat Kate Wyler is thrust into a prestigious job she’s not prepared for in the midst of an international crisis, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the American and British governments to allow them to use real locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.
She appeared at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
The only location that was not allowed was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential estate (11 acres) in London next to Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
The production and acting are top notch
The script is imaginative and interesting, engaging and well-paced. The character development is fairly solid and the actors are not simple caricatures.
Work situations that suddenly turn out of nowhere into “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy”
Time and again, the character seems one-dimensional at first glance, but then the story unfolds and they are actually much more complex than they seem. My only complaint is that some of the interpolated “romantic” subplots are so clumsy and out of place that they are incoherent and glaring.
Someone decided to add a little color to the show and it doesn’t improve the result
