Norway’s official entry for the “Best International Feature Film” category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025
Narrative
Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of overstepping his boundaries against his best friend from elementary school.
I understand why the film won the Camera d’Or at Cannes 2024, but for the love of life I couldn’t follow the film past halfway through
A famous single mother is called into school by an incompetent duo of teachers and administrators to discuss an incident involving her son and his friend.
It’s a great premise and Armand caught my attention, especially with the wonderful opening shot and overall camera work up to that point
But then it all develops into autoerotic territory and I still have no idea what the director meant by introducing a mishmash of improvised dance sequences and an actor laughing for 3 minutes straight.
(Seen at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2024)
That’s where it all started and from that point on it all became frustrating because we never recovered.
