The same filming location was also used to portray Trenwith House in the 2015 BBC television adaptation of Poldark. I read Rivals a few years ago and enjoyed every page! It’s a bit difficult to compare the book and its characters to its TV adaptation, as we all bring our own understanding of how certain characters should look and act.
The characters, especially Declan O’Hara as Aidan Turner, a high-profile journalist, and David Tennant as the evil Lord B, are excellent!
Also, we can read a book at our leisure, and TV has to move at a pace that suits the format and not drag, so some characters or side stories may have to be cut for time. For. That being said, yes, there are differences from the book, but not so much that it ruins the overall enjoyment and entertainment value.
We love Declan as much as we hate Lord B!
The 80s music is great, but one part that I found annoying was the opening high-pitched opera music, which wasn’t quite right. As for all the sex scenes, yes, we could do without some of them, because we all have imaginations, but that’s not the book Cooper wrote. It was great to get to know Jilly Cooper in the lunch scene at the restaurant.
She seemed to be enjoying the show as much as I did
The last episode ended very differently from the book, so I hope there’s at least one more season to see what happens with Taggy and RCB. . .
Of course, we know that the evil Lord B has to be around to wreak more havoc
